In 2016, the Parliament of Bermuda passed the Personal Information Protection Act. The act comes into effect later this year and covers the use of all personal information in Bermuda. The act will help ensure that individuals have control over their information and how it is used. It will also play a major role in the development of Bermuda’s cybersecurity framework and contribute toward the further development of a successful digital economy. The government of Bermuda is now looking to appoint an independent privacy commissioner to ensure compliance with PIPA and that the purposes of the act are being achieved.
