Japan is continuing its pursuit of tightening data protection regulations on big information technology companies this week. According to The Japan Times, the country’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party questioned a Google executive over the company’s data practices and is expected to question Facebook Friday. The meetings are part of a larger examination into whether those tech giants, along with Apple and Amazon, are hindering fair competition practices. Concerns have been raised over the companies' data collection and handling practices. A proposal is expected to be released in April from the LDP’s Research Commission on Market Competitiveness Policy.
