Jamaica's Data Protection Act took effect 1 Dec. The Office of the Information Commissioner announced a six-month grace period for data controllers to register with the office to confirm compliance. The OIC said data controllers can use the grace period to appoint a data protection officer, and are encouraged to "take advantage of the grace period by using the time to ensure their readiness for registration."
