Jamaica is proposing a National Identification System to collect citizens’ personal and biometric data, Rappler reports. The system would collect residents’ facial image, fingerprints, signature and more, while authorities may request additional information including a driver’s license, birth registration or passport. “They will gather all of this information and there is no moment where you have the power as a citizen to decide, ‘I don’t want the government to have this,’” Access Now Policy Associate Verónica Arroyo said.
