The Information Technology Association of Canada is calling for the federal government to establish a “data marketplace” where users have control over their information, IT Business Canada reports. The ITAC report wants Canada to become a leader in the development of a “data-driven digital economy” and recommends the creation of the data marketplace to give companies an avenue to use data to enhance their innovations. “We need to develop a framework that will allow for the creation of a data marketplace that allows consumers to benefit from and move around data from one vendor to another,” ITAC Vice President of Government Relations and Policy Andre Leduc said. “That creates some value for consumers, but also a lot of value generation for community and businesses in all sectors of the economy.”
