The recent Internal Revenue Service’s hack resulted in the leak of 700,000 taxpayers’ personal information, a statistic that is “more than double” initial agency estimates, USA Today reports. Among the information “potentially” at risk are Social Security numbers and data that could allow thieves to fraudulently file and collect a federal tax return, the report states. Meanwhile, a phishing attack duped a Snapchat employee, which led to the exposure of the payroll information and identities of an unknown number of additional employees, the company announced in a statement. The University of California, Berkley also experienced a hack, its second but also its largest, with an estimated 80,000 individuals affected, ZDNet reports.
