The Irish Data Protection Commission has asked Facebook about how it had paid contractors to transcribe users’ audio, Politico reports. The tech company said it was allowed to perform the activity after consumers opted in to the practice. "We are now seeking detailed information from Facebook on the processing in question and how Facebook believes that such processing of data is compliant with their GDPR obligations," the agency said in a statement. In response to the Facebook report, U.S. lawmakers have renewed their calls for new privacy legislation. Meanwhile, Microsoft updated its privacy notice to state that staff members and contractors may listen to recordings gathered by Cortana devices and Skype Translator products. A spokesperson said, "We realized, based on questions raised recently, that we could do a better job specifying that humans sometimes review this content."
