In the two months following the implementation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the Irish Data Protection Commission has received 1,184 data breach reports involving people’s personal information, The Irish Times reports. Of the reported incidents, the commission found the regulation applied in 953 cases. A spokesperson for the commission said, “By way of comparison, the Irish DPC received, on average, approximately 230 data breaches and 220 complaints per month last year (2017). As you can see there has been a significant increase in the volumes of both breaches and complaints to the DPC since May 25th.” (Registration may be required to access this story.)
