Ireland’s data protection commissioner will launch an investigation into the use of CCTV cameras across the country, The Irish Times reports. The agency is currently in the midst of a “scoping exercise” to determine the issues it will focus on, including the use of CCTV cameras by An Garda Síochána and the deployment of automatic number plate recognition cameras. “We are scoping out the details of what we don’t fully understand at the moment but need to understand and want to understand, and need to have a coherent picture of in terms of satisfying ourselves that data subjects’ [individuals’] rights are protected,” Helen Dixon said.
