Irish Data Protection Commissioner Helen Dixon has released the “2017 Annual Report of the DPC.” The report covers all the agency’s workings in 2017, with notable findings including the DPC receiving a 79 percent increase in total complaints compared to 2016. Of those complaints, 52 percent revolved around access rights. The DPC also noted a 26 percent increase in valid data security breaches in 2017. Dixon also announced a national public information campaign to raise awareness of the EU General Data Protection Regulation. “I’m pleased to launch my Annual Report today to highlight outcomes, progress and challenges for the past year and to raise awareness of data protection law as we move into GDPR implementation in 2018,” Dixon said in a statement.
