Ireland's Data Protection Commission is reviewing a complaint alleging the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection is engaging in "mass surveillance," the Irish Examiner reports. In the complaint, a Dublin man says his rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation were violated when, using the free travel option of his Public Services Card, his travel data was recorded and "exact details" of his journey were sent to the DEASP by the National Transport Authority without his knowledge. The NTA says the transportation data collected is anonymous when it is delivered to the DEASP and is done for recording and reimbursement purposes.
