Analysts argue that Ireland will serve as the "battleground" for many General Data Protection Regulation disputes due to the high number of data centers in the country, Independent.ie reports. This presents a unique set of challenges, especially with balancing the country's "pro-business" attitudes and protecting privacy rights under the GDPR, said data protection analyst Emerald de Leeuw. Walking this line should not keep businesses from adequate GDPR preparation, however. "With the risk of heavy fines under the GDPR, not to mention the reputational damage and potential loss of consumer confidence caused by non-compliance, Irish firms must act fast," de Leeuw added.
