The Data Protection Commissioner of Ireland has released her annual report for 2016, which highlights "key developments and activities for the Office for the last year, together with the priorities for 2017 and beyond." Commissioner Helen Dixon said data privacy complaints rose from 932 in 2015 to 1,479 last year, while there was a slight decrease in reported breach notifications, the Irish Independent reports. Dixon, whose agency expanded in the last year, noted that consultation queries "rose significantly in 2016," and that more than 100 face-to-face meetings with public- and private-sector organizations took place. She also said investigations into WhatsApp and Yahoo will wrap up later this year and reviewed a number of legal cases, including proceedings in the Irish High Court concerning standard contractual clauses. Dixon said "no indication has been given as to when judgement will be delivered." In the meantime, Dixon said the next 12 months will focus on GDPR-readiness.
