IPC reiterates need for private sector privacy law for Ontario

The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario’s 2021 annual report reiterates calls for Ontario’s own private sector privacy law. The IPC said Ontario needs its own “modern, efficient, and effective private sector privacy law with enhanced privacy protections tailored to meet the needs of the people and businesses of Ontario.” The IPC also urged the government to finalize regulations around its ability to impose penalties for breaches of Ontario’s health privacy law.
