The U.S. Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology’s forthcoming rule to improve the interoperability of health information was discussed at the ONC’s annual meeting this week, Politico reports. Health and Human Services officials reiterated their call to free up patient data and said privacy concerns should not delay the rule, while the American Medical Association called for more privacy protections. Meanwhile, a Washington court has invalidated certain Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act provisions and portions of the HHS Office for Civil Rights’ guidance on patient requests for copies of their health records.
