A group of 17 international trade associations asked the European Union and U.S. to begin negotiations for a replacement to the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield agreement, citing the negative economic effects of disrupted trans-Atlantic data flows. In a letter to European Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and European Data Protection Board Chairwoman Andrea Jelinek, the groups also requested the two governments work to solidify the long-term viability of standard contractual clauses following the Court of Justice of the European Union's "Schrems II" ruling.
