Reuters reports on Russia's use of facial-recognition technology to track protestors. Protestors who have attended recent political rallies have said law enforcement agencies have used facial recognition to make preventive arrests. Speaking to the TASS news agency, a law enforcement source said police have accessed images stored on a database of regular protestors for their investigations. Internet freedom advocate Sarkis Darbinyan said facial recognition in Russia started with monitoring criminals and finding missing children before he said the tech was used to scan protests.
