The New York Times reports on the deals Apple made with the Chinese government to build a data center in Guiyang. The center will store the personal data of Apple's Chinese customers but will be physically managed by Chinese state employees. Following pushback from the Chinese government, Apple decided not to use the encryption technology used in other locations.
