The Regina Leader-Post reports Innovation Minister François-Philippe Champagne said updating Canada’s consumer privacy legislation is a “top priority” in the new Parliament. Champagne said he will propose “an amended bill” in the new year. Canada should be “a market leader when it comes to the digital (and) data economy,” he said, adding updated legislation would ensure consumers’ personal information is protected while also advancing innovation. Champagne also said he thinks "there’s momentum” for support from legislative colleagues.
