In an interview with ZDNet, Rajnesh Singh, Asia-Pacific bureau director for Internet Society, explains that as more businesses extract and store data, Singapore should review and ensure that current guidelines protect citizens’ data. Realizing that personal data has become a valuable commodity, Singh warns of what a data “gold rush” will mean for personal privacy. “The industry as a whole needs to mature,” he said. “Consumers are becoming more informed [so] industry guidelines and codes of conduct also need to evolve.”
