The Hindu reports the Unique Identification Authority of India is requesting the government consider exempting the agency's work from the draft Personal Data Protection Bill. The UIDAI, which facilitates India's Aadhaar identification system, argued to the Joint Parliamentary Committee that its work is already regulated by the Aadhaar Act and further regulation by the PDPB would be a duplicity of laws. A source close to the JPC believes more government agencies may seek a similar exemption if one is granted to the UIDAI.
