The Hindu reports the Supreme Court of India mandated telecommunications providers safeguard and separate electronic evidence, including call data records, during investigations. The court said telecoms should work to protect and isolate the data once it is certified under provisions of the Information Technology Act, noting such actions will make it easy to pull evidence for court proceedings. Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman also emphasized data retention periods for telecoms should be limited to no more than one year.
