Citing a High Court directive, officials from the Jawaharlal Nehru University filed an FIR against the student union for removing a CCTV camera, The Times of India reports. The majority of students were "uncomfortable" about in-hostel CCTVs, but, CEO of Student Housing Manu Pillai argued that the CCTVs were good for students, and that "with the help of advanced technology, parents can also keep a tab on their kids; in fact, they can see when they are stepping out with the help of an app." He added that each door had a radio-frequency identification monitor, and that "can only be accessed by those staying in the room."
