India is prepared to dramatically update its data and privacy laws, the Economic Times reports. First is a potential replacement of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which would entail new policies for data governance and cybersecurity as part of a “Digital India Act.” New regulations may also be introduced to replace the proposed Personal Data Protection Bill. The PDP Bill was scrapped in favor of a total overhaul after data localization and data mirroring requirements caused concern among business stakeholders.
