The Wall Street Journal reports India's government is prepared to jail Indian-based WhatsApp and Twitter employees over noncompliance with government data requests. The government's requests stem from desires to curb further uprising after protests by Indian farmers in January. A WhatsApp spokesperson said the company would only meet requests that are "consistent with internationally recognized standards including human rights, due process and the rule of law," while a Twitter spokesperson added it plans to continue advocacy for "fundamental principles of the Open Internet."
