The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers has launched a new program aimed at building consensus among stakeholders to create standards for "ethical considerations around consumer and patient data," a press release states. The Industry Connections program, called Digital Inclusion through Trust and Agency, will convene technology innovators, industry representatives, policymakers, and academia to develop standards, certifications, and codes of conduct. "Identity is a consideration in every business and social transaction," said program co-chair Greg Adamson. Stated goals include engaging underserved populations, safeguarding personal agency for the most vulnerable, self-identifying without sacrificing privacy rights and the right to be forgotten, and encouraging distributed ledger technology standards to facilitate financial inclusion and other decentralized data sharing technologies.
