The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the IEEE Standards Association announced the first “Advancing HealthTech for Humanity” virtual blockchain workshop. The purpose of the workshop — which runs through Oct. 21 — is to “help demystify blockchain technology and give participants a better understanding of its capabilities, with an improved ability to address key challenges in health care today relating to privacy and security.” Workshop topics include patient anonymity, addressing issues of counterfeit medicine, and patient–driven interoperability. “As a unifying force and a catalyst for advancing technology innovation and implementation, IEEE is ideally positioned to bring diverse stakeholders in the blockchain ecosystem together to build consensus, support the standardization process, focus on education, and help advance blockchain technologies,” IEEE Blockchain Special Interest Group Chair Greg Adamson said.
