The U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office has released a self-assessment checklist designed to assist sole traders and self-employed individuals determine their compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the EU General Data Protection Regulation. The checklist seeks to better inform individuals about data protection efforts and gives sole traders a rating based on their responses. The ICO will also provide relevant guidance based on the received rating and suggestions for the best ways to stay compliant with the data laws. “We are committed to help sole traders and those who are self-employed to navigate data protection law and improve their practices. Handling personal data correctly can add value to businesses and enhance reputation, as it increases public trust,” ICO Head of Assurance Anulka Clarke said.
