U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office Deputy Commissioner for Operations James Dipple-Johnstone outlined the agency’s new regulatory powers ahead of both the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Bill. Dipple-Johnstone explains the ICO’s role as the agency released its updated Regulatory Action Policy, which is out for consultation. In the post, Dipple-Johnstone writes while the ICO has been busy getting ready for the new laws, the agency is realizing its regulatory powers as they stand will not be sufficient in the digital age, even with new powers coming from the GDPR. Dipple-Johnstone states the ICO will need to move at a faster rate to gather information and evidence to be able to properly function in today’s environment.
