  • The U.K. Information Commissioner's Office published a Commissioner's Opinion outlining new data protection standards for companies developing and using advertising technologies. "I am looking for solutions that eliminate intrusive online tracking and profiling practices, and give people meaningful choice over the use of their personal data," Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham said. "My office will not accept proposals based on underlying adtech concepts that replicate or seek to maintain the status quo."
  • The Court of Justice of the European Union ruled on the use of direct marketing via email inbox messages under the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
  • Belgium's Data Protection Authority finalized its draft decision against the IAB Europe's Transparency and Consent Framework. The decision will now be considered by fellow DPAs before it is made official.
  • The U.K. Competition and Markets Authority announced a pact with Google on improved third-party cookie alternatives via the company's Privacy Sandbox.
