The U.K. Information Commissioner's Office announced it fined Digital Growth Experts Limited 60,000 GBP for sending more than 16,000 nuisance text messages touting products it claimed are "effective against coronavirus." The company sent the messages without the recipients' consent, a violation of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003. "DGEL played upon people’s concerns at a time of great public uncertainty, acting with a blatant disregard for the law, and all in order to feather its own pockets," ICO Head of Investigations Andy Curry said.
