A freedom-of-information request showed that prior to the enforcement of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, businesses waited an average of three weeks between the time they discovered a data breach to the point when they reported the breach to the U.K Information Commissioner’s Office, Information Age reports. Cybersecurity company Redscan, which submitted the FOI and then analyzed 182 breach reports, also found that it took organizations an average of 60 days to first discover a breach.
