The U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office and Facebook reached an agreement over a 500,000 GBP fine issued against the tech company last year. The ICO penalized Facebook for allegedly failing to comply with U.K. data-processing principles as part of the agency’s investigation into the misuse of personal data in political campaigns. Facebook agreed to pay the financial penalty; however, it will not have to make an admission of liability. ICO Deputy Commissioner James Dipple-Johnstone said the agency welcomes the agreement. “We are pleased to have reached a settlement with the ICO. As we have said before, we wish we had done more to investigate claims about Cambridge Analytica in 2015,” Facebook Director and Associate General Counsel Harry Kinmonth said.
