U.K. Information Commissioner's Office of Technology Policy and Innovation Executive Director Simon McDougall discusses in a blog post considerations for data ethics in a growing digital economy. McDougall writes the EU General Data Protection Regulation can "continue to be relevant" with growing technologies, but "interpretation of that law is complex," and thus ethical questions are raised. "There is debate around when data protection and data ethics overlap, where they are separate, and where they may even conflict," McDougall writes, adding the ICO has hired its first data ethics adviser to help address current and future ethical challenges.
