U.K. Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham has sent letters to political campaigns to re-emphasize proper data use. Denham reminded parties and campaigns that the ICO fully expects them to respect and abide by data protection and electronic marketing laws. Parties and campaigns were urged to refer to the ICO's draft guidance on campaigns' data use while Denham suggested five points to focus on from the guidance. "People’s awareness of their data protection rights has never been greater, and their expectations that those rights are respected never higher," Denham wrote. "Compliance with these laws is vital to the trust and confidence in the democratic system."
