The head of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers warned that if online databases are shut down, the internet will be at risk of becoming fragmented and warned of “severe effects,” EURACTIV reports. While the organization has proposed changes itself, ICANN CEO Göran Marby said he has been pushing EU data protection regulators for a legal opinion on how the system, which lists personal information associated with registered internet domain names, can comply with the upcoming EU General Data Protection Regulation.
