In a letter to the U.S. Department of Commerce, IBM urges limiting the export of facial recognition systems and highlights the need for tighter export controls, ZDNet reports. IBM particularly opposes exporting the technology to countries that could use it for mass surveillance, racial profiling or other human rights violations. It suggests controlling the export of high-resolution cameras used to collect data and software algorithms used to analyze and match data.
