IBM has announced a new mainframe system capable of handling more than 12 billion encrypted transactions a day, CNBC reports. IBM is calling the new mainframe, the IBM Z, the “most significant system overhaul in more than 15 years.” IBM says the mainframe is 18 times faster than other platforms and aims to automate financial regulatory compliance, as well as decrease the threat of data breaches. IBM Z General Manager Ross Mauri said, “The vast majority of stolen or leaked data today is in the open and easy to use because encryption has been very difficult and expensive to do at scale. We created a data protection engine for the cloud era to have a significant and immediate impact on global data security.”
