More than 50 privacy pros. Downtown San Francisco. Twitter. Expert trainers. All the ingredients necessary to make this month’s public privacy training event the largest in IAPP history.

“It’s the biggest hosted public training we’ve ever had,” IAPP Corporate Alliance Consultant Aaron Stevens, CIPP/US, CIPT, said, adding, “The initial responses I’ve had back from the participants have been very positive.”

Stevens, who was the IAPP’s onsite ambassador for the training, explained what organizations need to have in place to volunteer to host a training, including space for at least 50 trainees and two large training rooms, as the two-day training events includes one day of Foundation, which can be hosted in one space, and a second day that usually involves CIPP/US and one other training. In Twitter’s case, that was CIPT.

Twitter, which became an IAPP corporate member last year, “really went above and beyond,” Stevens said, not only hosting the training but providing breakfast and lunch for attendees at its downtown San Francisco, CA, location.

And volunteering to host a public training has its perks for member organizations, too, Stevens said. In addition to good PR for any organization that hosts a public training—including being listed on the IAPP website and gaining visibility as privacy pros from other fields and sister organizations take part in the event—hosts receive two free trainings, allowing them to provide the opportunity to additional staff members.
