The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission requires most publicly traded companies to annually disclose potential risk factors to investors in Form 10-K submissions. Since 2017, the IAPP has studied these reports to assess disclosures of personal data processing practices and privacy regulations as a risk, but also to understand what business harms the organizations faced for getting privacy wrong. The 2021 review from the IAPP Westin Research team showed clear trends despite varying perceptions of privacy and security risks among the six sectors examined.
