The IAPP’s J. Trevor Hughes, CIPP, believes the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) forthcoming implementation of a Federal Privacy Council and its subsequent guidance are both “clear indicators of increasing maturity” and a major “moment” in the privacy world, GovExec reports. “Organizations around the world are recognizing that anyone who touches data or makes decisions must understand privacy,” Hughes said. “You can’t have privacy without good security. So increasingly we are finding the conversation about privacy melds into the conversation about cybersecurity,” he continued. Looking ahead, the OPM will be challenged with “finding those privacy professionals OPM is calling for,” he argues. The private sector has necessitated “over 10,000 new privacy professionals in the world during the last two years … So for anyone looking for career development or a growth field, stepping into privacy is a good choice.”
