In his forward to the “Human Rights and Technology” discussion paper, Australian Human Rights Commissioner Edward Santow thinks “government should lead the way” in addressing privacy and human rights protections, ZDNet reports. Among the 29 proposals put forward in the paper is the call for government to modernize privacy and human rights laws to take into account the rise of artificial intelligence and develop a national strategy to protect human rights as new and emerging technologies are developed. “The adoption of a ‘human rights by design’ strategy in government policies and procedures would be an important step in promoting accessible technology,” the paper states.
