The U.S. House of Representatives again voted to remove a ban on federal funds for the Department of Health and Human Services to develop a national patient identifier, Health IT Security reports. Rep. Bill Foster, D-Ill., said removing the “archaic ban is more important than ever as we face the COVID-19 pandemic.” The American Civil Liberties Union objects, saying unique health identifiers could allow the government and law enforcement “to gain unprecedented access to sensitive medical information.”
