The U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary announced it has launched an antitrust investigation of the tech industry, CNN Business reports. Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., said the investigation will cover several areas, such as tech’s impact on consumer privacy, local journalism and the opportunity for startups to enter the marketplace. Cicilline said the committee’s investigation should focus more on the “tremendous concentration of market power” within the industry rather than on a single company. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission have agreed to split up authority over Facebook, Amazon, Apple and Alphabet as the two agencies conduct their own antitrust investigations.
