Internet service provider Hong Kong Broadband Network announced 380,000 customer and service applicant records were involved in a data breach earlier this week when an unauthorized person accessed the records, Hong Kong Free Press reports. The records, which were part of an inactive database, contained personally identifiable information, as well as 43,000 credit card details, from the group’s 2012 fixed line and international calling services division. In an announcement, the company said, “Upon identifying the unauthorized access, the group has immediately conducted a thorough internal investigation and engaged an external network security consultant to conduct a comprehensive check of all systems and servers.” HKBN believes the breach was an isolated event and will “will not have any material impact on the group’s business and operation.”
