Messaging service HipChat has reset all of its users' passwords after hackers may have accessed names, addresses, and in some cases, message board posts, PCWorld reports. While HipChat did not elaborate on the amount of users affected the by security incident, it did say "the passwords that may have been exposed would also be difficult to crack" due to extensive hashing and salting by the company and that it had notified customers of the breach, the report states. Meanwhile, Lifespan has notified 20,000 customers of a breach after an employee's car was robbed and a work laptop stolen, Becker's Health IT and CIO Review reports. Lifespan changed the employee's system credentials after it was notified of the breach, but the investigators found that the laptop was unencrypted and not password-protected. However, Lifespan added that it had no indication of data misuse from the incident.
