Those covered entities chosen to complete HIPAA program desk audits will have 10 business days to submit the required documentation to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' Office for Civil Rights, said Deputy Director Deven McGraw in a FierceHealthIT report. With more than 180 subjects of inquest, the audits focus on “basic HIPAA requirements,” the report states, and as such, subjects "should be able to move on this quickly," McGraw said. "We expect the protocol to be a very good self-assessment tool for entities. … It's a really good protocol for just getting your house in order from a HIPAA compliance standpoint," she added.
