The discovery of a hidden camera disguised as a motion sensor in an Airbnb rental is raising concerns over what steps both the company and customer can take to ensure privacy during a stay, Buzzfeed News reports. Despite having a policy requiring hosts to disclose the use of security cameras and obtain proper consent from customers, several guests have discovered hidden cameras in recent years. Jeff Henry, spokesperson for Airbnb, said the discovery of hidden cameras was “incredibly rare” and in this instance, the host was banned and a full refund was paid to the customer. Buzzfeed News also reports the issue of surveillance in hospitality sectors has been a “hot-button topic” and there are “hundreds of stories about hotels using unlawful surveillance."
