The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office for Civil Rights has called for feedback on ways to improve guidance within the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act in regards to data sharing and privacy, HealthITSecurity reports. Industry stakeholders are asked to cite the HIPAA provisions they believe “present obstacles to these goals without meaningfully contributing to the privacy and security of protected health information and/or patients’ ability to exercise their rights with respect to their PHI.” The agencies will accept comments until Feb. 11. Meanwhile, a federal magistrate judge dismissed a case against YouTube and A&E for alleged HIPAA violations after the companies broadcasted a mental health care patient transported to a medical facility by law enforcement.
