The Los Angeles Times profiles Stanford University graduate student Jonathan Mayer, who, at age 27, is an “expert on consumer privacy and government surveillance.” While Mayer still hasn’t finished his PhD, he’s briefed high-level government officials, and his research has been cited by a presidential task force on National Security Agency operations, among other accomplishments. “It’s been kind of remarkable,” Mayer said. “Because there aren’t other good sources for this information, I guess a grad student is it.”
